Location- Location -Location

Tropic Inn is located in Mount Lavinia. The only Beach close to Colombo. We are only a 2 minutes walk to the beach. Our hotel is not on the beach and we don't have sea view rooms. "Mount Lavinia Hotel" is only a 10 minutes walk from our hotel. We are close to all transport. Bus, train, taxi, three wheeler.... If you are planning on going to Bentota, Kikkaduwa, Galle, Unawatuna, or Mirissa, our hotel is a good stop over point.

1. Question: Can you pick us from the airport?
Answer: Yes. We have our own hotel airport pick up service. Our pick up price is US$ 31. When you book your room please let us know if you want us to pick you from the airport. If you do, then we will need your flight name and number and arrival time. We will be holding your name sign at the passenger pick up area. Even if it is at 2 a.m. we can pick you.
2. Question: Is your hotel safe?
Answer: Yes. Our hotel is very safe. 95% of our guests are travellers coming from other countries. We are a 20 room medium size hotel catering mainly to the traveller who is visiting Sri Lanka. We do not give 'Day rooms'. ( for 2 or 3 hrs hours). Also we do not let local boys and girls go to the rooms. This Keeps the trouble makers out and makes our hotel a fun, friendly, safe and a family oriented hotel. We encourage Sri Lankan families to visit us too. If you are looking for a small, quiet hotel this is the perfect place for you.
3. Question: Is it safe to travel to Sri Lanka?
Answer: Yes it is safe now. The war is over and the people are trying to forget the past and want to live togeather happily. So visit our country. Remember Sri lanka is a Small Miracle.
4. Question: Do we have to pay for the room at the time of booking?
Answer: No. You don't have to pay when you book. We do not accept any payment through the internet. You only pay on arrival at the hotel. If you have to cancell your booking please email us before your arrival date.
5. Question: Do you have a restaurant ?
Answer:Yes we do have a restaurant. Our Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our prices are very reasonable. Price Range from Rs 200 to Rs 650. Most of our dished are Rs 300 to 400 Range. We serve eastern as well as western food.
6. Question: Does your hotel have a swimming pool?
Answer: Sorry we don't have a swimming pool. But you can use the pool at Berjaya Mount Royal Hotel. Pool Fee per day is Rs 400. Its only two minutes walk from our hotel. or you can use the Mount Lavinia Hotel pool. This hotel is beautiful and you will enjoy your swim. (Rs 500 per person).
7. Question: How far is your hotel from the Colombo railway station. (Fort) and Mount Lavinia train station?
Answer: It will take 20 to 30 min to get to our hotel from the Fort railway station. You can come by car, three wheeler or by bus. A car or three wheeler will cost about Rs 1000 and the bus will cost RS 50. You can also take the train to Mount Lavinia train station and it is a 10 to 15 minutes walk to our hotel. We can also pick you from the Mount Lavinia Train Station for free. You need to call us once you are at the station and we will be there in 5 minutes.
8. Question: Will I be able to find a hospital if I fall sick?
Answer: Yes. We are very close to Colombo and you can find enough hospitals around. If you fall sick on your tour we will take you to the nearest hospital. We will do our best to ensure your vacation is great.
9. Question: Do I need Visa to go to Sri Lanka?
Answer: Most of the countries do not need a visa. But on arrival You will be given a one month visa. If you want to stay more than a month you can extend your visa at the passport office for a fee.
10.Question: How close are you from the airport?
Answer: We are 50 minutes drive from the airport. But if you get caught to the rush hour traffic it can take a little longer. We are only 15-20 minutes from downtown Colombo.
11. Question: Does your hotel face the beach?
Answer: Our hotel does not face the beach. But we are only 2 minutes walk to the beach. We were not hit by the tsunami.
12. Question: Do you have internet Access?
Answer: Yes we do have internet in our hotel lobby as well as in all the rooms. It is free if you book a room with us. You will have to bring your own lap top.
13. Question: What time is Breakfast?
Answer: We serve breakfast from 7.00 a.m. to 10 a.m. Please come for breakfast between this time. We serve Western and Sri Lankan breakfast.
14. Question: Any scam I need to know before we arrive?
Answer: Yes. There is 1 related to our hotel. If any one talks to you on the road and tells you they work at our hotel and wants to borrow Rs 500 or Rs 1000 or any amount, do not give. This person will tell you he is working in the kitchen and came to buy vegetables and he is short of money and will return once he goes to the hotel. Dont give. Who ever this person is, does not work for us.
15.Question: We want to go on a tour, but can we discuss with you once we arrive at your hotel?
Answer: Yes, for sure. Once you are at our hotel let us know you want to go on a tour. We will sit with you and discuss the tour plan. If you are satisfied with our price and the tour itinary you could book the tour with us. If you are not satisfied you can always say no and we will not pressure you in doing the tour with us.
16. Question: Why do you also have a Canada Phone number? Do we have to pay agents fee if we book through them?
Answer: We have a Canadian phone number because our internet booking is done in Toronto Canada. You don't have to pay any agents fee. Our Toronto reservation office is our own and its not an agent. Because of the time differences it is easy for the European and Noth American clients to call Toronto.
17. Question: Do you have a safe deposit box in the room?
Answer: No we dont have a safe deposit box in the room. You can leave your valuables in our hotel safe. We will not be responsible for any lost items in the room.
18.Question:Do you clean our rooms everyday?
Answer: Yes we do clean your rooms everyday. Please leave your key at the reception when you leave in the morning and you will come back to a clean comfortable room again.. We change your sheets every other day.
19.Question: Driving in Sri Lanka is much different from where we live. Tell me how do I manage to cross the road in Sri Lanka?
Answer: Yes driving is crazy here. That is part of Sri Lanka. When you want to cross the road, always cross at the crossing lines and always, always cross with the other locals. They have done this many times and they are the experts. Let them lead and you follow with caution.

Our room was clean and comfortable. We very much enjoyed the breakfast and found the staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitly stay here on our next visit. The only improvement would be to hava a double bed instead of three singles.....in our "double room". Location was excellent, with lots of good places to eat and drink nearby on the beach.

For the price you get a good and quiet place to stay. 20 minute walk from Mt Lavinia Railway Station. Takes the train 30 minutes to get to Colombo Fort. On the main Galle road there are four working ATMs between the hotel and railway station, there is also KFC on the main road. Close to the beach, friendly and helpful staff, working AC and WiFi.

This hotel has just been refurbished, it's very clean and in a decent location. The breakfast was good and the staff very helpful. The rooms without a/c were a little hot as there was only a ceiling fan but apart from that it's a great place to stay in Colombo.

The Tropic Inn is in Mount Lavinia which is not in Central Colombo but I knew that so it didn't bother me. I booked a bed in a female dorm. The first time I stayed I stayed in the College Rd building. They gave me a twin room for the price of the dorm. The second time I stayed at the Hotel Rd site. For two of my three nights I had the room to myself. The staff are very lovely and friendly. Their English is good. Overall, it was a great place to stay and was excellent value for the price.

Enjoyed my stay here very much. Nice location, not too far away from the center of town, but nice and quiet. Breakfast is filling and its free. I like the fact that there are 2 routers in the building to ensure a strong wifi signal. Many hotels advertise wifi but it is often difficult to get a good signal. The signal here is always strong. For the price, Tropic Inn is really wonderful for a business traveller like me. Mt Lavinia is quiet and tucked away from the craze of Colombo and at the same time, not too far from everything. Good food can be found in restaurants all around Tropic Inn. Taxi is readily available with just 1 phone call away because the taxi HQ is just 10 minutes away. Value for money!

The tropic inn was very clean, quiet with a helpfull friendly staff and good free breakfast. Its better suited for 2 people traveling together though as all rooms are billed as double occupancy. anyway its a nice place to stopover on your way south from columbo airport, and the beach is 5 min away.

The Hotel has been brilliant to stay in on a budget, it has all you need. Some of the rooms are smaller and so if it is too small they are great to be able to move. The food downstairs is good but expect to wait a while (however this is normal in Sri Lanka). Whatever your needs the staff are always happy to serve. The bathroom and room could of been aired better however due to the humid climate this can not be helped. A/C was perfect. All in all a very enjoyable stay , with the best bit the beach right down the road and even can travel to mount lavina hotel to use their pool and have a more up market experience on the side!!

The Tropic Inn was fantastic. We had a great room on the first floor, really large. Admittedly it was for three people but I looked into the other rooms for two and they were a good size too. We had our own bathroom and could not ask for more. Sheets and towells were spotless, breakfast was really great and I struggled to eat it all. We decided to have dinner in the restaurant there and it was undoubtedly the best food we had had so far in Sri Lanka. So cheap too. The service from all staff was nothing short of fantastic. The property is just a couple of minutes walk from the beach. We were given great information for going into Colombo and spent four hours with a driver taking us around to the anywhere we wanted to go. All in all I honestly could not find fault with one single thing and would recommend anyone to stay there. Great value

When my wife & I are on holiday in Sri Lanka, this is the only Hotel we took a great liking, from our first visit itself. All the departments in this Hotel are excellent, but the Rooms & Service along with the Buffet Breakfast gets the Maximum stars. In short when our holiday comes to an end , my wife says "I wish we can stay here for couple of more days", I'm sure that explains every thing about this place..
